ENGAGEMENT SESSION WITH NYDIA & NICK IN DUMBO BROOKLYN https://www.framedelegance.com/blog/2014/8/engagement-session-with-nydia-nick-in-dumbo-brooklyn

Welcome to my Engagement session in DUMBO Brooklyn with Nydia and Nick who are getting married on September 5th at

Villa Barone Manor, in Bronx NY.

We had a great time walking around looking for locations to shoot and make some memories.  It was a beautiful sunny day.

There were people everywhere you turned.  Nydia was a little apprehensive and nervous but as the day went on, I helped her and Nick with some posing and gave them reassurance that all this will help on their wedding day.  Not only was this their first time in front of a professional but it was the first time we all met in person.

During an engagement session, you get to meet your photographer, discuss your wedding day, practice your posing and expressions and release any anxiety that you may have.

After a long day and a few Corona's next to the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory, Nydia, Nick and I walked over to a restaurant called Gran Electrica on 5 Front Street for some delicious Mexican Food.  While waiting for our food, we discussed their wedding plans, looked over my sample book and talked the rest of the evening away.

Thank you again Nydia & Nick and most importantly to Bob Kappstatter, Nick's Dad,  for choosing me to be part of this journey.

Profoto B1 or D1 triggering the Canon 600 EX-RT Speedlites https://www.framedelegance.com/blog/2014/7/profoto-b1-or-d1-triggering-the-canon-600-ex-rt-speedlites Hi everyone,

I wanted to let the photographers seeking info on using the Profoto B1 or D1 with the Canon 600EX-RT Speedlites that I found a solution.

When I first bought my Profoto B1 Kit I figured 2 lights were enough and if I needed a rim light or two I could use my Canon 600EX-RT’s in optical mode for the Profoto’s to trigger them.  After much research I found that the Canon EX Speedlites are only compatible with each other in optical.  (BUMMER).

I began researching to see if I can use a flash slave trigger to do the job and after much research including B&H and Adorama the reviews were stating that the products they bought did not work with the Canon EX series Speedlites.

I found this product on Amazon and ordered two of them:

Canon Flash Slave Trigger

I received them today (7-5-14) and immediately tested them on my Speedlite using the Profoto B1 to trigger it.  It worked Flawlessly !  Not only did it work great but I was able to keep the Speedlite on radio mode (not slave mode) so I could control the flash output with my Canon ST-E3-RT Transmitter while handheld, and it worked seamlessly with no problems triggering the Speedlite at the power I set on the Transmitter manually.

Mind you, this is all working while I have the Profoto Air remote TTL-C on camera controlling the Profoto lights.

To give you an example, I have the Profoto lights at a power setting of 5 and the speedlites as rim lights at 1/4 power.  I can lower or raise the profoto light power on camera from the remote and lower or raise the power on the speedlites from the Canon ST-E3-RT controller while holding it in my hand.

The only thing you can not do is turn the speedlite off with the remote.  The flash slave trigger connected to the speedlite will still see the light and trigger the flash.

I’ve included photos of the product and packaging to help those searching for it a bit easier.  Amazon still has the product as well.

THOUGHTS ON THE NEW CANON SPEEDLITE 600EX-RT AND THE NEW CANON ST-E3-RT https://www.framedelegance.com/blog/2013/2/thoughts-on-the-new-canon-speedlite-600ex-rt-and-the-new-canon-st-e3-rt Hi everyone! My Thoughts and findings on the new Canon flash and Controller

Just want to share some info for Canon users and the new Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT and the new Canon ST-E3-RT Transmitter with relation to the pocket wizards FlexTT5 and the miniTT1.

I purchased the new flash for my recent event but I did not buy the transmitter. I used the new flash on my TT5 pocket wizard. I had the flash off camera and was controlling the flash with the miniTT1 and the AC3 controller on camera. For the most part it functioned well but I remember there being a few miss fires which is one of the canon flash issues when using the Pocket Wizards. This is why they supply the little body bag (what I call it) for the flash unit when it sits on a TT5 Pocket Wizard.

A few days after the shoot I was culling my images and discovered that I had missed more than a few moments because of misfires. (I have my camera set on one shot to give the flash some cycle time.) I decided to upgrade and ordered the new canon controller ST-E3-RT. I received it yesterday (Jan, 31st) and began testing and using it immediately.  Below is a quick synopsis of my findings.

My short Findings: (The bad stuff)
The controller cannot trigger the pocket wizards due to the different frequencies. I called the Pocket Wizard tech support and verified.
The controller cannot trigger your older flashes, such as the 580 or 580 II.

My short findings: (The good stuff)
The controller works really well with the new flash system and the controls are exactly the same as on the flash. Very long range..
It allows you to power down the flash when on manual, down to 1/128th of second. The Pocket Wizards only powers down to 1/64th.

BONUS: I found that if you place the new Canon controller on top of the miniTT1 it will act as a AC3 controller and control your new flash plus the your old flashes on the TT5 pocket wizards at the same time.  Interesting........

It's a little bulky on top on the camera with the miniTT1 and the new Canon controller but just wanted to mention that it worked. You can control each flash independently of each other in manual mode.

I hope Canon comes out with a TT5 type of receiver for the older flashes to make them compatible with the new system. Those will sell like hot cakes!

Hope this helps and thanks for stopping by, Rick.

THE PROPOSAL BY NEW YORK WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER RICK GARCIA https://www.framedelegance.com/blog/2012/7/the-proposal-by-New-York-wedding-photographer-rick-garcia

........Ali & Jeff on July 4, 2012 in Manhattan, New York getting engaged........

We've never met before this.......

The Proposal

These images were captured in complete darkness and by complete surprise. My family and I were at the westside highway water view festivities in Manhattan, NY for July the 4th when my wife began to feel ill due to the heat. We left the crowd and sat on a bench away from everyone while she regained her strength and drank water. The fireworks were well on their way as we sat listening. In the distance in comes a couple. They walk towards the middle of the area and stop. I see what appears to be the male going down on one knee. I realized what was transpiring before our eyes and scrambled for my camera which I already put away in my bag. It was so dark but I tried to focus and the camera would not cooperate. I immediately put the lens in manual focus , cranked up the ISO (Film Speed / sensitivity to light) as I opened the aperture (Lens opening to let more light in) and shot what I could while trying to focus. These are the only images they have of that special day and I'm extremely proud and happy I was there and able to capture that moment in time.

As they were leaving during this extremely emotional experience, I approached them and introduced myself.  I told them I was a Bronx wedding and portrait
photographer and I had captured their once in a lifetime moment.  They were so thrilled and excited. The female, which I now know as Ali was beside herself showing us the ring standing next to her proud fiancee.  What a moment not only for us but for them!..

Congrats and all the best, Rick Garcia
